Die Künstler
Stephen J. „Steve“ Ditko wurde 1927 in Pennsylvania geboren. Er studierte unter Jerry Robinson an der Cartoonists and Illustrators School in New York und begann Mitte der 1950er-Jahre bei Atlas Comics zu arbeiten, dem Vorläufer von Marvel Comics. Er machte sich als Künstler und – mit Stan Lee – Miterfinder von Spider-Man sowie als Schöpfer von Doctor Strange einen Namen. Von 1958 bis 1967 teilte sich Ditko ein Atelier mit Eric Stanton, und man nimmt an, dass sie sich gegenseitig bei ihrer Arbeit unterstützten, sichtbar vor allem bei Eric Stantons On a Kinky Hook und Sweeter Gwen.
Jack Kirby (1917–1994) war einer der legendärsten und produktivsten Comic-Zeichner, dessen bekannten Werke Captain America, die Avengers, X-Men, Der unglaubliche Hulk, Ant-Man, S.H.I.E.L.D. und Thor umfassen.
John Romita Sr. war ein US-amerikanischer Comiczeichner, der vor allem für seine Arbeit an The Amazing Spider-Man bekannt war, den er nach dem plötzlichen Ausstieg von Steve Ditko bei Marvel Comics im Jahr 1966 sieben Jahre lang zeichnete. Romita wurde 1973 Art Director bei Marvel und half bei der Mitgestaltung vieler bekannter Figuren des Unternehmens, darunter Mary Jane Watson, Wolverine, der Punisher, der Kingpin und Luke Cage. Er verstarb 2023 im Alter von 93 Jahren.
Stan Lee (1922–2018) kennen Millionen als jenen Mann, der Marvel in seine herausragende Stellung in der Comic- Branche katapultiert hat. Er war unter anderem Mitschöpfer von Spider-Man, dem unglaublichen Hulk, den X-Men, den Fantastischen Vier, Iron Man und Hunderten weiteren Figuren. Während er emeritierter Vorsitzender von Marvel war, erfand er gleichzeitig als Chief Creative Officer der Firma POW! Entertainment zahlreiche neue Figuren und Geschichten, die in Büchern und Filmen aber auch im Reality-TV, auf der Bühne, in Dokumentationen und Multimedia reüssierten.

Douglas Wolk verfasste die Standardwerke All of the Marvels und Reading Comics. In Magazinen wie The New York Times, Time, The Washington Post, Rolling Stone und The Believer bespricht der mit dem Eisner-Award ausgezeichnete Autor regelmäßig Comics und Popkultur. Wolk lehrt Comics History an der Portland State University.
